2012-13 Events and Offerings:

April 18 and 19 - Introduction to Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles in the Classroom - Detroit Zoo Full Day Workshop, You must attend both days.  Contact Barb for application details.
K-12 educators with an interest in hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines are invited to attend this exciting 2-day workshop that provides a truly unique educational opportunity. Participants will receive an instruction manual, materials and support to design, engineer and build a fully functional underwater remotely operated vehicle or ROV.  STEM lessons, skills and activities presented in this workshop support standards and benchmarks in science, math and technology.   Cost is $200/team of three.

November 2012 - Tivitz Math and Strategy - Details to be announced...Workshop will be held in the Thumb area.  Teachers in grades four through eight are invited to apply in pairs for a limited number of seats at this full day math workshop.  Registration is $100 per pair and includes a classroom set of Tivitz games.

November 16 and 17 - Intermediate Underwater ROV workshop, Traverse City MI
Teachers experienced in the design and build of simple ROVs may apply to attend this workshop dedicated to the digital age. 
This workshop represents the next step in the underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) design and building progress.  Its intent is to provide a resource for teachers who wish to integrate a higher degree of technology and sophistication into their ROV.  Embracing the digital world requires a different thought process.  Once the digital foundation is laid, a whole new avenue of motor control, communication and data collection is available for the ROV builder.  Registration is $100 per pair of teachers.

March 23, 2013 - Underwater Innovative Vehicle Design at Oak Park High School in Oak Park MI 8am-5pm.  20 teams from around the state will take the plunge and see what lies beneath the surface via student-built underwater remotely operated vehicles.

May 31, 2013 - Tivitz Math and Strategy Tournament 6pm-9pm
Students from around the state will descend upon the Museum of Natural History at the University of Michigan to compete in the Tivitz Math and Strategy Tournament.  Contact Barb to register students.

May 4, 2013 - Innovative Vehicle Design (IVD) Day at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn MI 8am-5pm
Join us for a great day of friendly ground vehicle competition - Full Scale Electric Vehicles, Autonomous Vehicles, and Mini IVD Racing will heat up the infield and the big oval!  Special thanks to the Ford Foundation for their continued support.

Spring 2013 - GPS and Geocaching - Details to be announced.  K-12 educators are invited to apply in pairs for a limited number of seats at this full day, interactive field study workshop, resulting in an understanding of the many cross-curricular uses of the handheld GPS device and the creative possibilities and intrigue involved in the use of geocaches as teaching tools.

Summer 2013 - Cell Phone Science Workshop - Oakland Schools, Waterford MI  We have discovered that while we use Iphones, Blackberrys, and other wireless devices every day, most students and teachers do not have an understanding of the science behind these technological marvels.  These devices can be used to effectively teach physics concepts, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  Participants must attend in pairs.  Cost is $500/pair and includes $2,000 in non-consumable classroom materials and curriculum guide. 8:30 – 4 both days

August 15, 2013 - Synergy Summit - Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti MI
